Seoul: Defense Minister Song Young-moo attends a government policy coordination and review meeting in Seoul on July 12, 2018. An independent investigation team was launched on the president's order to probe suspicions that the military intelligence unit, the Defense Security Command, wrote a report last year on the possibility of imposing martial law to deal with nationwide candlelight protests demanding the resignation of then-President Park Geun-hye. Song himself has come under criticism, accused of not taking action for months after he was told about the report.
