WASHINGTON, Jun 24, 2014 - Former Jewish resident of Shanghai Jerry Lidenstraus and his wife visit the Story of Jewish Refugees in Shanghai Exhibition at Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., capital of the United States, Jun 23, 2014. An exhibit about Jewish refugees kicked off here Monday, recalling a time when Shanghai was a safe haven for about 18,000 Jewish people fleeing Nazi persecution. The exhibit, "Jewish Refugees and Shanghai", tells the stories of the difficulties faced by Jewish refugees on their journey to and from Shanghai in the 1930s and 40s, as well as their adaptation to the city and friendship with the Chinese people.
