The city paid rich tribute to Shehnai maestro and Kashi’s pride Bharat Ratna Bismillah Khan on his 102nd birth anniversary. The family members, his admirers, music lovers and district officials paid homage to the legend at the mausoleum of Chunar sand stone showing a blend of Islamic and Hindu architecture at Fatman graveyard in Sigra area. However, the house number 46/63 in the narrow lane of Sarai Harha, where Ustad lived, wore a forlorn look, as no effort has been made to conserve the place as a memorial of the great musician, who not only popularized a folk instrument shehnai as a classical instrument but also brought it at the centre stage.
