She was the hot favourite and she lived up to the expectations of more than a billion people. Hima Das made her way into record books by clocking 51.46 seconds winning the gold medal in the 400 metres of the IAAF World Under 20 Athletics. Hima also became the first Indian athlete to win a gold in the track event of this championship. And her effort has been given due attention back home with the likes of President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, and cricket greats like Sachin Tendulkar and explosive batsman Virender Sehwag paying glowing tributes to her. After PT Usha, India may finally have found its own sprint queen in Hima.
