The Central Government has announced a seven-day state mourning throughout the country as a mark of respect to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee breathed his last at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences on August 16, 2018. Vajpayee served as Prime Minister of India thrice (1996, 1998 and 1999). His tenures lasted 13 days, 13 months and a near full five-year term when he went for early elections in 2004 respectively.
