After developing a major crack, the British era Kollidam bridge collapsed in Tiruchirappalli of Tamil Nadu. Part of the bridge was washed away in the folded Cauvery river basin after its collapse. Due to heavy flow of water in the flooded Cauvery river, the Kollidam bridge had developed major cracks after which entry to the bridge was restricted to avoid any unfortunate incident. The bridge connected Srirangam to the mainland and heavy waterflow from Mettur dam had resulted in developing major cracks on the bridge. Kollidam bridge was built in the British era.
