To please Manasa Devi, the Hindu serpentine deity, these tribals can go to any extent. During the annual festival, the tribal community from Ranchi does daredevil stunts like playing with fire and snakes. Some even pierce their bodies during the procession while few put poisonous snakes into their mouths during the festive procession. Devotees say that it is their tradition to worship the snake goddess and hence, deadly snakes can’t harm them. Other devotees also offer flowers and milk to the serpentine deity Manasa Devi.
