Google doodle today marked the festival of Holi. The colourful doodle showcases festivities and splashing of colours. The festival of colours marks the end of winter and beginning of spring. This festival is predominantly celebrated in India and Nepal. But now the festival is widely celebrated in other Asian and Western countries owing to the presence of Indians in these regions. Celebrations for Holi begin a night before with Holika Dahan. In Holika Dahan people perform religious rituals in front of a bonfire and pray for the destruction of evil. It is just the way in which Holika, the sister of the demon king Hiranyakashipu, was killed in the fire. On the day of Holi, people smear each other with gulal and colours. Children hurl balloons at each other. People across India, are seen engaging themselves in celebratory dance to the beat of drums, To sum up, Holi signifies the spirit of togetherness with colours of spring.
