A female junior assistan of the Supreme Court of India has leveled allegations of sexual harassment and victimisation against the chief justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi. In her affidavit addressed to all the Supreme Court judges she has alleged sexual harassment followed by victimisation that includes the alleged termination of services of her family and an FIR being registered against her. After the allegations were made public by media, the CJI called for a special SC hearing which was presided over by a bench he himself led. Responding to the allegations, CJI Gogoi said, "Independence of judiciary is under serious threat. There is some bigger force behind the woman, with a criminal track record, making sexual harassment charges (against him)".
