Tribals of Kurichiad settlement deep inside the Wayanad forests have maintained 100% voting for the past seven decades. The remote tribal village ensured 100% voting this year too with all the 58 tribal voters exercising their franchise. The 2019 general elections could be the last voting for this over 300-year-old village as majority of residents have moved out of the forest to various places under the central government-sponsored voluntary relocation programme. The remaining 58 voters in the settlement too have received compensation and are expected to move out within the next one year. 90% of Kurichiad voters had cast their votes by around 11 am and the last voter Raju cast his vote at 5:45 pm, thereby ensuring 100% polling.
