Opposition leaders have slammed Home Minister Amit Shah after he said that Hindi should be India’s national language. DMK president MK Stalin said, ‘Unity in diversity is our biggest strength. What the Union home minister has said is an effort to make all those states which don’t speak Hindi as second level citizens in the country. The present need is to give importance to all languages present in the 8th schedule of the Constitution and this is what is best for the country’s sovereignty and integrity. DMK wants Shah to withdraw his suggestion and Prime Minister Narendra Modi must interfere on this issue. If the Centre fails to withdraw the suggestion to impose Hindi, DMK will convene all parties not only in the state but also across the country and prepare for another anti-language protest.’
