Addressing the gathering at planning body meet, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal reiterated that Delhi should be given the status of a full-fledged state, which had been promised for several years but denied by successive central governments. This demand was one of the key planks of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Lok Sabha elections. During campaigns Kejriwal, his ministers and candidates consistently argued that Delhi’s holistic development wasn’t possible unless it became a full state. This was the first meeting of the planning body after the formation of a new government at the Centre. It was attended by chief ministers, lieutenant governors of Union territories, central ministers and senior government officials.
