Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad. He was the son of Motilal Nehru, a renowned lawyer and leader of the Indian independence movement. In 1919, Nehru joined the Indian National Congress. He was one of the principal leaders of India’s independence movement in the 1930s and ’40s. He served India as Prime Minister from its establishment as an independent nation in 1947 until his death.
