Observed on September 19, 2026, Radha Ashtami is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Bhadrapada in the Hindu calendar. This day honors the appearance of Sri Radha, who is deeply respected as the greatest devotee and eternal beloved of Lord Krishna.
The Ashtami tithi begins at 1:01 PM on September 18 and ends at 3:27 on September 19. Devotees can plan their fasting and prayers within this Tithi period for spiritual observance. On September 19, 2026, the sun will rise at 6:18 AM and set at 6:23 PM. The moon will rise at 1:33 PM and set at 12:11 AM.

The Brahma Vaivarta Purana explains that Radha is the original divine energy (Shakti) and that Goddess Laksmi and Saraswati come from her power. Her appearance is linked to the divine will to take part in sacred and joyful divine pastimes (lila). Radha is the bright child born to King Vrishabhanu and Queen Kirti in the village of Barsana. It is said that she kept her eyes closed at first and opened them only when she saw Krishna.
The Gaudiya Vaishnavas advise devotees to fast until noon, as Radha is believed to have appeared at midday. Devotees perform abhisheka of Radha-Krishna deities, sing kirtans, recite Radha’s glories, and offer sweets and flowers. Worship of Krishna is considered complete only when it is done along with the worship of Radha.
In the teachings of Rupa Goswami and Jiva Goswami, Radha is described as the embodiment of mahabha, which means the highest and most intense form of divine love. Gadiya philosophy explains that Krishna is the Supreme Enjoyer (Shaktiman) and Radha is His supreme divine energy (Shakti). Their union represents the highest state of divine joy and bliss (ananda).
