The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the new premium hatchback from the Japanese manufacturer believed to be a contender with the Hyundai Elite i20, the new Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo. Launched in September 2015, Baleno is large and muscular looking, bigger than the Swift and it will serve as Maruti Suzuki's new flagship in the hatchback category. It is designed to weigh less and boost rigidity.
Engine and performance
Baleno is made available in both petrol and diesel and will have the same engine line as that of the Swift. The 4-cylinder 1197 cc k-series petrol engine that delivers 84.3 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. The diesel, however, is likely powered by the 4-cylinder 1248 cc DDis generating 75 PS and 190 Nm. The hatch is likely to have its engines with both automatic and manual transmissions. It will probably have a CVT gearbox and not an AMT one. The petrol version produces around 21 kmpl of mileage, whereas the diesel 27 kmpl.
In terms of comfort, it includes the usual air conditioning system, driver seat adjustment, parking assistance and a few others. The manufacturer has been much keen on its safety since it is a premium hatchback. It has been built with high strength body structures, with impact protection beams and crumple zones for maximum protection.
The Baleno looks like the progeny of the Kizashi and the Swift. It is a very distinct hatchback, larger than others while still maintaining a sleek and stylish exterior. It possesses a v-shape radiator grill with the company insignia placed proudly at the center. Swept back headlamps give it an intense demeanor. The body colored front bumper is built conventionally with wide air intakes and neatly placed jog lamps.
The sides look impressively sleek with well-designed fenders, bold window frames and chrome door handles. Its large alloy wheels add to its sleek look. A rear windscreen with a backward slant complimented by well-designed tail lamps gives the car an overall sleek and modern look.
