The cancerous growth that occurs in the colon in the large intestine is known as colon cancer. Often, cancer also affects the rectum and so it is also known as colorectal cancer. Some of the symptoms of colon cancer include abrupt changes in bowel habits, bleeding during the passing of stool, unexplained weight loss, and pencil thin stools. However, it is important to know that cancer may exist without any symptoms at all.

Scientifically Proven Approaches to reduce the chance of Colon Cancer

Dried Plums may help you keep colon cancer at bay

Dried plums not only tickles your taste buds but has found to reduce the risk of colon cancer by positively affecting microbiota or gut bacteria composition throughout the colon. The revelations were made by scientists in a recent study. They discovered the retention capability of beneficial bacteria in dried plums, which is believed to reduce the risk of colon cancer.

The study concludes that certain incidences of precancerous lesions can be reduced by dried plums diets, which has the ability to retain the beneficial microbiota and microbial metabolism throughout the colon.

The International Cancer Research Institute, American Cancer Society has listed colon cancer as the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., when figures of men and women are considered separately, and is seen as the second-leading cause of death in the world when the figures of both men and women statistics are combined.

As per the figures released by the American Cancer Society, almost 49,700 deaths from colon cancer has been reported worldwide in the census of 2015.

Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommend dried plum diet that increases Bacteroidetes and reduces Firmicutes - the two major components that help reverse the growth of gut bacteria in the colon and reducing the chance of colon cancer.

Colorful potatoes aid in the prevention of the dreadful colon cancer

The colon cancer stem cells can now be eliminated by colorful compounds found in potatoes, according to a study. The study confirmed that the powerful colorish compounds in potatoes prevent the spread of colon cancer.

Not only that, extracts of baked potato also provide a beneficial effect and prevent the spread of colon cancer stem cells.

The researchers have found that the healing effect of colorful potatoes is basically due to the resistant starch, a food for the gut bacteria that gets converted to fatty acids such as butyric acid. The butyric acid not only regulates immune function in the gut but also suppresses chronic inflammation and help to cause cancer cells to self-destruct.

Relying on Exercise and a power packed healthy diet will reverse the chances of colon cancer

Adhering to a diet rich in whole grains, fruits, and veggies, maintaining a healthy body weight by indulging in regular exercise may significantly reduce the chances of colon cancer; especially in colon cancer patients, such habits may lower the recurrence of cancer.

The analysis was put forth by researchers from the University of California and San Francisco, who worked in collaboration to study the behaviors of colon cancer and the modes to prevent the growth of cancer cells.

The study results showed engaging in such behaviors help to reduce the risk of death by 42 percent in colon cancer patients compared to patients who don't adhere to such behaviors.

Recurrence of Colon Cancer Halves by Nuts consumption

You may have heard your granny say that almonds increase memory, which now is a scientifically proven fact. But now, the researchers have found that not only almonds but eating tree nuts including almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews, and pecans help to significantly reduce the recurrence of colon cancer.

The researchers' interest in studying the benefits of nut consumption was particularly due to nuts capability in reducing the incidences of obesity and type-2 diabetes, and also lowering the incidences in insulin resistance.

The results of the study showed peanuts to have a different metabolic composition and advanced anti-bacterial effect to prevent the spread of cancer.

Say Yes to Coffee for avoiding the risk of colorectal cancer

Your daily coffee consumption may help you fight colorectal cancer. This fact was concluded by the researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) who also ascertained that coffee consumption including decaf, instant, and espresso alleviates the chances the of colorectal cancer.

Also, more coffee consumption will substantially lower the cancer risk.

The results of the study show that even one to two servings a day almost brings down the probability of developing colorectal cancer by 26 percent.

However, the measure of the beneficial compounds per serving of coffee varies and entirely depends on the bean, roast and brewing method.

Coffee contains many elements including the caffeine and polyphenol that acts as antioxidants to prevent the growth of cancer cells. Another component, Melanoidins that is created during the roasting process helps to strengthen colon mobility while Diterpenes aids in body's defense against the damage in oxidative system.

Aspirin reverses the growth of colon and pancreatic cancer cells

A recent study has shown aspirin to remarkably bring down the chance of colon cancer and dwindle the colon and pancreatic cancer cells.

The blood cells that are involved with clotting are known as platelets. Platelets are responsible for the growth of cancerous cells and help in releasing growth factors and elevating the response of certain proteins that regulate tumor cell development called oncoproteins.

Aspirin is an anti-platelet drug, and even low dosage have considerably reduced the risk of some types of gastrointestinal cancers.

The scientists found that aspirin releases compounds that destabilize the growth and replication of platelets in the pancreatic and nonmetastatic colon cancer cells.

However, the metastatic colon cancer cells, that grows outside the colon manages to grow and multiply when treated with aspirin.

But, high dosage of aspirin stopped the growth of cancer in the metastatic colon cells, as per the results of the study.
