Nissan was established in 1911 and it was originally known as Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works by Masujiro Hashimoto. Three years later the company produced its first car, the DAT which was an acronym of the three investing partner’s surnames. The company went on several name changes throughout the 1920s. Nihon Sangyou, a Japanese industries merged with the Nissan in 1931 and its CEO Yoshisuke Alkawa was keen on starting automobile division, and in 1934 the company adopted the new name, NISSAN Motor Company. Nissan continued the production of Datsuns, the kind of cars they had been making for years along with the production of trucks and planes for the Japanese army. Later, Nissan started exporting its Datsun to Australia and US where it gained a wide market.

In 1999, Nissan faced severe financial crisis and entered an alliance with Renault S.A of France. The Renault-Nissan alliance is the first of its kind involving Japanese and French car manufacturers. Nissan Motors India Private Ltd is a subsidiary of Nissan Motors Japan. The company was introduced in India in 2005 with its global partner Renault. Together they have a manufacturing plant in Chennai. Nissan India has two brands in India, Nissan and economic car maker Datsun. Nissan brings Micra in hatchback, Sunny in sedan, Kicks and Terrano in SUV segments to the Indian market.
