October 10 : After the government has allowed threatres to reopen from October 15, 2020 with 50 percent occupancy, the distributers were concerned over the fact that they have to movies in hand to run and attract footfall of audiences. Amidst this concern, the makers of Ananya Panday and Ishaan Khatter starrer Khaali Peeli announced that they will release the film in the theatres.
While Maqbool Khan’s directorial Khaali Peeli will reportedly hit the big screens on October 16, 2020, it will be the first Bollywood film to release in cinemas post lockdown. Khaali Peeli was released on an OTT platform on October 2, 2020. The film was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on June 12. The film was also successfully screened at the drive-in theatres of Bengaluru and Gurugram. The movie was also released in Singapore, Mauritius, The Netherlands, Austria, Africa, and Fiji.
All theatres were shut down due to coronavirus pandemic and the consequent lockdown in March. Now, theatre owners have been allowed to open the halls in areas outside the containment zones. Bollywood welcomed the decision and expressed happiness over the decision on social media.
The Tamil movie Ka Pae Ranasingam starring Aishwarya Rajesh and Vijay Sethupathi will also reportedly hit the theatres on the same day.
Meanwhile, PVR has also officially announced that it will release three Hollywood films after the theatres are reopened. These films include Dave Bautista's My Spy, Mel Gibson-starrer Force of Nature and the horror film The Rental, and their release dates in theatres are slated to be on October 16, October 23 and October 30, respectively.
