March 23 : Late Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Chhichhore has won the 67th National Film Award for best Hindi feature film. The awards, which were delayed for a year due to Covid-19 pandemic, were announced on Monday evening. 

After Chhichhore was announced as the best Hindi film of 2019, producer Sajid Nadiadwala said in a statement that he dedicates the award to the late actor. “On behalf of NGE (Nadiadwala Grandson and Entertainment), I dedicate this extremely prestigious award to Sushant Singh Rajput. We can’t get over his loss ever but I sincerely pray that this award gives a little bit of happiness to his family and fans which includes me. And I am tremendously grateful to Nitesh Tiwari for giving us all, this very special movie,” the producer said.

Director Nitesh Tiwari, on the other hand, said that he never thought that Chhichhore can be considered for a National Award. The film had also received five nominations at the 65th Filmfare Awards—best film, best director, best story, best dialogue, and best editing.

Chhichhore was released on September 6, 2019. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and written by him along with Piyush Gupta and Nikhil Mehrotra, the comedy drama film was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film starred late Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Sharma in the lead roles, along with Naveen Polishetty, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saharsh Kumar Shukla and Tushar Pandey in pivotal roles. 

The film tells the story of a middle-aged divorcee whose son attempts to commit suicide as he didn’t want to live a life of a “loser”. The incident not only brings the ex-couple together but also the gang of friends who were inseparable and partners in college mischief. They all reunite to share the pain of one of them. The movie started filming in September 2018.
