May 07 : Rakul Preet Singh has a number of films lined up. The actress has recently bagged Ronnie Screwvala's film with a bold social message. It seems that Rakul is choosing varied characters to play in her films. While she plays a co-pilot in Ajay Devgn’s film MayDay, she plays a romantic lead in Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Doctor G. In the new RSVP film, the De De Pyaar De actress plays a condom tester. It is reported that Rakul has finally signed on the dotted lines.
The RSVP film is reportedly titled Chhatriwali, which will be Rakul’s first solo female centric film. The film has been planned to release directly on an OTT platform, much like RSVP's film Dhamaka starring Kartik Aaryan. Since condoms are called ‘chhatri’ in local slang language, the film where the actress plays a condom tester, is reportedly titled Chhatriwali.
The film will be helmed by Marathi filmmaker Tejas Vijay Deoskar, who had directed the much acclaimed film Bucket List. The comedy film has a strong yet bold social message that aims to destigmatise the use of condoms. In India, people still shy away from buying condoms or even taking its name, hence it is referred in different local names.
Before the film was offered to Rakul Preet Singh, it was reportedly offered to Sara Ali Khan and then to Ananya Panday. While Sara refused the film after the narration, Ananya turned it down as she felt that the subject of the film is quite bold for her. Sara, who is also starring in Vicky Kaushal starrer Ashwatthama under the RSVP banner, was first approached for the social comedy. Sara reportedly refused to play a sexecutive in the film.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Rakul will be next seen in Sardar Ka Grandson along with Arjun Kapoor and Neena Gupta. Directed by Kaashvie Nair, and produced jointly by John Abraham and Nikkhil Advani, the film, which was earlier planned for a theatrical release, will now premier on Netflix on May 18, 2021. Rakul also has Doctor G and MayDay in her Kitty.
