September 07 : Lucknow: The Yogi Government is continuously working towards connecting students across the state with employment-oriented skills along with quality education. In this direction, preparations have been completed to provide vocational skill training alongside school education to students of Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas operated by the Social Welfare Department.
Under ‘Project Praveen’ for the financial year 2026-27, the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has set a target to train more than 3,000 students across the state in various employment-oriented sectors. The training target has been assigned to 31 training provider institutions. All selected institutions will be required to complete the process of establishing training centres, obtaining their approval, registering students, and forming batches within the prescribed timeline. It has been made mandatory for training to commence at all training centres by September 30, 2026.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Kapil Dev Agrawal, stated that the objective of ‘Project Praveen’ is to connect students studying in Sarvodaya Vidyalayas with skills alongside their education that can prepare them for employment, self-employment and better career opportunities in the future. Students will be trained in employment-oriented sectors including Apparel, IT-ITeS, Management, and others, according to their interests and the training available. Under the Yogi Government’s Skill Development Policy, this initiative will prove important in taking youth from education to skills and from skills to employment. Providing practical and vocational training at the school level itself will help boost students’ confidence and develop competencies necessary for their future.
To maintain the quality of training, the batch size has also been prescribed. A maximum of 35 students will be included in a batch, while the total duration of training will be up to 300 hours. This will provide students with an opportunity to receive skill training without affecting their regular school education. The Mission’s focus is not only on initiating training but also on ensuring its quality and transparency. Training providers will have to submit the agreement at the Mission Headquarters and obtain its confirmation. Only thereafter will the District Programme Management Unit (DPMU) of the concerned district be permitted to form batches.
To ensure the quality and authenticity of skill training, the concerned job role will be verified on the NCVET and NQR portals before a batch is approved. Thereafter, students will be trained only in valid and recognised job roles. Approval on the portal will also be granted only to those batches and sectors that have been allotted to the concerned training institution. This will help maintain transparency in the training system and ensure that students receive training in accordance with prescribed standards.
To ensure that students do not face a shortage of essential resources during training, training providers will be required to provide study material within seven days of the commencement of a batch. It will also be mandatory to upload signed receipts and photographs of the distribution of study material to students on the Mission portal. The training curriculum and assessment will be conducted in accordance with the standards prescribed by the concerned Sector Skill Council (SSC). Payment for training will also be made in accordance with the prescribed Common Cost Norms.
Mission Director Pulkit Khare has directed training providers to complete all processes within the prescribed timelines and in accordance with the rules. The Mission’s priority is to ensure that training is not confined merely to paperwork, but that students actually acquire useful and quality skills. He stated that through ‘Project Praveen’, efforts are being made to make students proficient in skills alongside school education. Skill training at the school level itself will boost students’ confidence and make them more capable of securing employment and better career opportunities in the future.
