Guru is the One who dispels the darkness of ignorance, the one who points the way. Here is a compilation of 10 Sanskrit slokas and quotes from Shree Guru Stotram and other vedic resources to pay tribute to our Gurus. The original sanskrit text with its translitereated English version and English meaning is given below.

अज्ञान तिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जन शलाकया ।
चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥

Agnyaana Timiraandhasya Gnyaana Anjana Shalaakayaa
Chakshuhu Unmeelitam Yenam Tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha

Meaning: A Guru can save us from the pangs of ignorance (darkness) by applying to us the balm of knowledge or awareness of the Supreme, I offer my salutation to such a Guru.

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥

Guru Brahma Gurur Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwaraha
Guru Saakshat Para Brahma Tasmai Sree Gurave Namaha

Meaning:Guru is Lord Brahma, Guru is Lord Vishnu and Guru is Lord Maheswara (Shiva). Guru is verily the Supreme God. I offer my salutation to such a Guru.

Meaning: My Salutations to that Guru who revealed to me that Truth, which is unfragmented, infinite, timeless divinity, and which pervades the entire
universe – movable or unmovable.

नाली कनी काशपदाहृताभ्यां नानाविमोहादिनिवारिकाभ्यां।
नमज्जनाभीष्टततिब्रदाभ्यां नमो नमः श्री गुरु पादुकाभ्यां॥

Naleeka neekasa pada hrithabhyam, nana vimohadhi nivarikabyam,
Nama janabheeshtathathi pradhabhyam namo nama sri guru padukhabyam

My prostrations to the holy sandals of my Guru, which remove all kinds of ignorant desires, and which fulfill in plenty, the desire of those who bow down to them.

गुशब्दस्त्वन्धकारः स्यात्‌ रुशब्दस्तन्निरोधकः।
अन्धकारनिरोधित्वात्‌ गुरुरित्यभिधीयते॥

(-- Advaya Taraka Upanishad)

guśabdastvandhakāraḥ syāt ruśabdastannirodhakaḥ |
andhakāranirodhitvāt gururityabhidhīyate ||

The syllable "Gu" means darkness and ignorance. The syllable 'Ru' means eradication of darkness or ignorance. Because of the power to dispel darkness, the guru is thus named.

अनंत संसार समुद्र तार
नौकायिताभ्यां गुरुभक्तिदाभ्याम् ।
वैराग्य साम्राज्यद पूजनाभ्याम्
नमो नमः श्री गुरु पादुकाभ्याम् ॥

Anantha samsara samudhra thara
naukayithabhyam guru bhakthithabhyam,
Vairagya samrajyadha poojanabhyam,
namo nama sri guru padukhabyam.

My salutation to the holy sandals of my Guru, which serves as the boat to cross this endless cycle of worldly existence, which endow me with devotion to Guru, and which grace me with freedom from all worldly desires

शोषणं भवसिन्धोश्च ज्ञापणं सारसंपदः।
गुरोः पादोदकं सम्यक् तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः॥

Shoshnam Bhav Sindhoshch Gyapnam Sar-Sampdah;
Guroh Padodkam Samyak Tasmae Shri Gurve Namah.

I pray to the noble Guru, by washing whose feet, the ocean of transmigration, endless sorrows is completely dried up and the Supreme wealth is revealed.
