December 03 : On December 3, the International Day of People with Disabilities is observed all around the world. The day is also called as World Disability Day 2019. The day was specifically created so that the general public remember that there are many disabled people in this human community. In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly declared that it would be the International Year of Disabled Persons.
Ever since 1992, the day has been officially observed with a mission to understand disability issues, accept such people and also help them grow and survive in this human world. For this, various campaigns have been conducted all over the world to teach people how to support, respect and also provide improved living, education and employment rights to a person with special abilities.
World Disability Day 2019: Theme of the year
This year, the theme focusses on ‘Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda’. It encourages the strategic and passive empowerment of people with disability thereby enabling sustainable development – and this is in par with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
People need to understand that IDPWD- International Day of People with Disabilities is not about promoting the disability factor in a person. But it is just one serious health impairment in certain individuals. These people need a lot of care and attention and in due time, they will be able to participate in the social community. The mission here is to make people have the patience to help disable people come out of their homes, and overcome their problems without fear or embarrassment.
