December 21 : This year’s Lok Sabha elections saw a number of celebrity faces, who tried their fate in politics. Let’s see how they fared.
Popular Bengali actress Nusrat Jahan won Lok Sabha Elections 2019 from Basirhat as a Trinamool Congress candidate against BJP candidate Sayantan Basu. Nusrat made her screen debut in 2011.
Actress Mimi Chakraborty
Another popular Bengali actress Mimi Chakraborty won the elections from Jadavpur constituency as a Trinamool Congress candidate. She joined films in 2012.
Bollywood actor Sunny Deol won the elections on BJP ticket. Deol recently directed his home production Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas.
Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar of Rangeela fame contested Lok Sabha Elections as a Congress candidate, but lost the battle.
Actor-activist Prakash Raj, who fought the elections from Bengaluru Central as an independent candidate, lost the poll.
Poonam Sinha, wife of Shatrughan Sinha, lost the Lok Sabha elections as a Samajwadi Party candidate to Rajnath Singh from Lucknow constituency. She did minor roles in Bollywood films and produced two films.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir won the East Delhi seat, defeating Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Former Olympic athlete Krishna Poonia, who was a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, fought the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 2019 on a Congress ticket against Cabinet Minister Rajyavardhan SIngh Rathore from Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha seat. The discus thrower is a Padma Shri awardee.
