January 02 : January is a month of everlasting festive zeal with Sankashti Chaturthi, Bhogi, Lohri, Vasant Panchami, Pongal coming one after the other. And what better way to spend a holiday than watching a movie? Let’s find out the plethora of movies hitting the theatres in the first half of this month.
Sab Kushal Mangal
Releasing on January 3, this romantic comedy is directed by Karan Vishwanath Kashyap, and features Akshaye Khanna, and debutants Priyank Sharma and Riva Kishan. After his serious role in Section 375, Akshaye will be seen in a refreshing comedy role of a small city Bahubali.
Bhangra Paa Le
Directed by debutant Sneha Taurani, this comedy and dance drama will also hit the screens on January 3. Starring Balraj Singh Khehra, Himanshu Sharma, Sunny Kaushal and Rukshar Dhillon, the film attempts to create a bridge between the traditional forms of Bhangra and its juxtaposition with western dance forms.
Another release on January 3, Ramesh Sippy’s Shimla Mirchi stars Hema Malini, Rajkummar Rao and Rakul Preet Singh. Rajkummar Rao writes a love letter to his love interest Rakul Preet, but accidentally it lands in the hands of her on-screen mother Hema Malini, who thinks it is for her. The misunderstanding leads to many hilarious situations.
Scheduled for a Pongal release on January 9, the Tamil cop thriller is directed by A. R. Murugadoss. Starring Rajinikanth, Nayanthara, Nivetha Thomas, and Sunil Shetty, the film is being promoted by SpiceJet, which has unveiled a Darbar-themed flight that bears Rajinikanth’s image along with the film’s title on it.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior
Slated for a release on January 10, the film is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare, who was the military leader of Maharaj Shivaji. Helmed by Om Raut, the film features Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol in lead roles.
Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey, the film will be released on January 10.
