The Centre on Wednesday expressed its concerns over the rising coronavirus cases in Maharashtra and Punjab. "Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 28,699. And considering Punjab's population, a very high number of cases are being reported there," Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said at a media briefing in New Delhi. A meeting has been called with the officials of the two states on Saturday to discuss refinement in their strategy, Bhushan said. The ministry has also clarified that the new foreign variants of COVID-19 can't be directly linked to the surge in the cases in India. Watch highlights.
