The Tata Nano, which creates quite a stir in the car market because of its unbelievably affordable price and made a name for a true middle-class car, is now back with the GenX model that consists of considerable updates from the previous models. It had already boasted of the power steering and a luxurious interior that helped enhance sales of the car for the entry-level competition. With multiple rumors, it was predicted that there would either be a diesel version or an installation of an automatic gearbox. 2014 Auto Expo saw the release of this car’s concept and since then, it has been long awaited. The basic model XE comes at a price of 1.99 lakhs. Then, the XM and XT models are priced at 2.29 and 2.49 lakhs respectively. The XMA model, an upgrade of the XM one, comes with a tag of 2.69 lakhs. The most elite one, the XTA model is priced at a comfortable 2.99 lakhs.

The ever smiling front facia of Nano is retained in the exterior design as ever before. It is the clear trait of evolution of the design language and principle. Nano will come up with further improvements on the both front and rear. Also, the headlight design has been revised for the Nano AMT. The design elements that have been carried forward are the rear lights and the chrome finish. The overall proportion also remains unchanged. The alloy wheels have a new design too.
The interior too keeps certain design elements but makes obvious enhancements. It is an attempt to keep the model in contention with new arrivals in the A-segment from the different brands like Renault and Nissan. The centrally mounted instrument binnacle is still there with air vents over the cabin in circular fashion. The most important addition in the model is the gear stick with the chrome finish for the all new smart AMT gearbox. It is a fine replacement for the classic four-speeder. Despite its famed compactness, Nano is spacious enough for its passengers and that quality is retained here too. It allows up to five passengers in considerable comfort. The luggage carrying capacity has also been increased to an extensive 110 liters.
Features and specifications
There have been heavy rumors about the engine. The Nano AMT is powered by a new petrol-driven engine with 1.0 liter capacity and three-cylinder system. Also, a 624 cc engine with two-cylinder system is also available like the existing model. The manually controlled gearbox comes with similar efficiency and ha a mileage of 25.35 km/liter. The 5-speed manual transmission is a significant addition in the engine design. The engine features MPFI technology. The fuel tank has a capacity of 24 liters compared to the 15 liter one and can run up to 450 KM once the tank is full. The power rating of the new model is at 38 HP and has a peak torque of 51 Nm. Also, a dual option of both 4-speed and 5-speed option is available for the power train too. Also, the new hatch can be opened at will. The F-Tronic unit will be there too in the new model, a design element indispensible in the Zest compact sedan. The new gearbox is going to be available across many models from the house of Tata.
