Indian-American Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer have jointly won the 2019 Nobel Economic Prize. As per the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the work of the three economists had shown hot problem of poverty can be tackled. Their study breaks down the problem into smaller and more precise questions in areas such as education and healthcare, making problems easier to tackle. Banerjee studied at University of Calcutta, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Harvard University. The 58-year old received his PhD at Harvard in 1988. Banerjee is currently serving as the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
