The Supreme Court of India today ruled that CJI's office is a public authority under the ambit of RTI Act. SC constitution bench comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justices N V Ramana, D Y Chandrachud, Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna delivered the ruling. The apex court said, "Right to privacy and confidentiality is an important aspect and it has to be balanced while deciding to give out information from the CJI's office. Transparency cannot be allowed to run counter to right to privacy."
