Heavy rains have resulted in damage to UNESCO world heritage site - Hampi in Karnataka’s Ballari district. A 16 pillar-mantapa collapsed post heavy rains due to past several days in Ballari. The ancient town of Hampi is a tourist hotspot. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was carrying out restoration work to revive the lost glory of Hampi, which was recognised as UNESCO world heritage site in 1986 and last year, the NDA government chose it as one of the top 10 tourist destinations across India.
