Fort Aguada is the prime attraction of the Aguada Beach. This historical fort was built in the 17th century by the Portuguese rulers. The fort was built to protect old Goa from army attacks. There is a circular lighthouse tower located at the middle of the fort that is worth a watch. The top of the lighthouse gives you a spectacular view of Cabo Raj Niwas. From Fort Aguada the view of the golden beach and sea right up to the borders of the state of Maharashtra. The view is simply stunning and awe-inspiring. The fort currently functions as the Central jail and is the largest prison house in Goa.
Besides the famous fort there are also magnificent churches around the Aguada Beach that you must definitely not miss out on. The Reis Magos Church just overlooking Reis Magos is one of the ancient churches of the region that was built in the year 1555. The tranquillity and serenity of this place is only disturbed by crashing of waves and chirping of the birds. The big windows of the Reis Magos church offer striking view of the Mondovi River.
The Fort Aguada Hotel Complex located at the beach is also worth visiting. The hotel is partitioned into three parts with expensive cottages lined on the upper side, the fort extending into the sea and charming Goan village provided with individual cottages.
The Basilica of Bom Jesus is also popularly called as Basilica of Good Jesus and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located close to Aguada Beach in old Goa. This monument is a famous religious landmark and is also the first minor basilica in the name of infant Jesus in India. The church also holds the body of St. Francis Xavier, the founder of Society of Jesus along his friend St. Ignatius Loyola. This landmark monument is visited by tourists in large numbers.
